000060 - dedicated to shinkai-san
the above is not a photo but something i've whipped up in photoshop with my wacom tablet. for those new to this blog, i love pictures of the sky especially sunsets and clouds and i'm a fan of the work of japanese animator, makoto shinkai.
my plan is to make a short animation this year for one of my uni projects and i guess this is good practise for making some nice looking sky backgrounds (which i'm sure i'll have to make quite a bit). therefore, yes, it's not meant to look realistic but rather more anime-esque.
haven't blogged for a while but off the top of my head, here's what i've been up to recently:
saw steamboy and metropolis as a double feature at the astor on saturday night with alex. steamboy was just awesome! loved the characters and the attention to detail with everything in that movie. i was awe-struck!! metropolis was bit slow and dragged on in parts. the character design didn't really mesh with the whole amazing 3D CGI backgrounds for me. both films were quite political (about power and weapons) thematically i thought.
also watched man on fire on dvd on sunday night. the movie was quite long but quite entertaining and sad in some ways. kinda made me scared to go to mexico city and i'm sure this isn't a movie you'd have on mexico tourist pack. i found some of the epileptic camera shots to be quite annoying.
my car wouldn't start for some odd reason yesterday. it freaked me out a bit since it's been quite a reliable partner of mine. i finally jump started it later in the day which meant my battery is on it's last legs (it has been 5 years old i guess). booked in for a 80,000 kms service next week at the local honda service centre. i'm told it's one of the big ones and will cost me at least 600 fat ones! /(T__T)\ *dies*
not gonna complain about having no moolah. not gonna complain about having no moolah. not gonna complain about having no moolah.
in the happy department, i'm going nuts with the unlimited cable connection and found a bit torrent of capcom design works!! while i'm totally and morally against downloading copyrighted material and material from creators i respect. i've been having trouble finding this artbook available even online to order. most are out of stock and others have an indefinite waiting period. so for now, until i find on available for sale, i'm going to settle for a bootleg scanned copy. gomen gomen capcom
comic-wise, new pencil pages for knight-edge #4 are coming along slowly. i'm really influenced by sho-u tajima at the moment, so i'm rendering shadows like a madman. haven't read anything that jumps off at the moment. pigtale #1 was pretty cool. been reading manga scanlations lately, *loves* mpd psycho, 20th century boys, and gantz. and i'm looking forward to sharknife by rey! the guy's got some energetic style, check out his stuff!!
