000103 - Heroes & Villains Exhibition

On Thursday 19 October, a couple of weeks ago now, I was invited to attend the opening night for the Heroes & Villains: Australian Comics and their Creators Exhibition at the State Library of Victoria.

This exhibition is curated by local Australian comic expert and collector, Kevin Patrick and there were certainly lots of familiar and unfamiliar faces at the opening night (lots of tall people in suits actually but I'm guessing most of us were there also for the free drinks! :)). I mostly caught up with Dean Rankine, and Darren Close but also saw and at least said "hi" to Dillon Naylor, Douglas Holgate, Greg Gates and Richard Warwick. Apparently, I was later told that Mandy "Dirty Little Creep" Ord and Tad "Dark Nebula" Pietrzykowski were there, too.

The exhibition itself, located in Keith Murdoch Gallery, is very well put together and designed. It's a FREE exhibition showcasing the history of Australian comics, from the 1940s to today. Knight-Edge, Paragon Comics and Gary Lau (me) is proud and honoured to be included in this exhibition and I encourage everyone who's able to go to have a gander. They have this awesome FREE full colour exhibition booklet that you can grab that has lots of stuff featured in the exhibition so you can keep as a souvenir.

If you're unable to make it to this funtastic FREE exhibition however, you can check out some of it online via the website's online catalogue. There's also a section of the website where you can read transcripts and download audio podcasts of the various sections from this exhibition here.

Here are more information about this exhibition.
