000028 - deadlines

been busy working on my entry for the HQ playstation 2 graphic novel competition the last week or so. it's 2 pages of A4 sized comic art which is right down my alley. it's been great in terms of having a project to work on with a deadline to aim for. i've able to set myself schedules and work towards the deadline (this friday). i'm relatively happy with the result and sent it off in the mail today, all i can do now is leave it in the hands of lady luck and hope the judges like my entry enough to get it in the finals...

next up is a piece of ffx-2 fan-art for a competition for a newbie local mag called, gaijin magazine. deadline is also this friday!

skipped indoor soccer tonight because i picked up more bruises and injuries than i thought i had from sunday's 2 matches that we played. nothing serious, it's just if i had played tonight, i don't think i'd be able to walk tomorrow.

almost 10 days or less i'll be flying off to penang, malaysia. with all my previous travels os by myself to san diego, london, edinburgh, paris, etc. i've been looking forward to this trip the most, mainly because of her.

tonight after dinner, mum pointed out how pretty the night sky was from our backyard, so i thought i'd put my amateur photography skills (as in none whatsoever) to the test with my new kodak LS443 digi cam. and here's the result:

000027 - numb

came back from another session of indoor soccer tonight. i seriously was contemplating not going since i was feeling so crappy the past 24 hours, but i knew the sweat would do me good. and i was right. my hands were numb (and still kind of are right now as i type) for some odd reason and i only played half of each period. we didn't win but we played much better than our sunday effort. there's a little evil part of me celebrating that i passed my nasty germs onto the other team...

ok, i lied. there a big evil part of me having a party right now!

seriously, in other news, i have no idea why china is making all these effort to go in space at the moment. what's the point? during the cold war days, it was a space race between the russians and the usa. but it seems like a ridiculous waste of money for china to now try and be a player. i can understand the underlying need to put chinese satelites in space because i'd assume usa has the majority of them orbitting around earth at the moment. in fact, if communications is what china is prioritising than good on them. but don't expect me to jump up and down in excitement when china lands on the friggin' moon! all this putting men in space is like a cheesy retro 80s cartoon or comic book making a come back, and i'm pretty sick of that trend 8 months ago...

got a little bit of drawing done today. as i mentioned yesterday, i was gonna do some kill bill fan-art if i got the chance. so here's my first effort of the bride :

looking forward to seeing the movie, hopefully, tomorrow.

000026 - false start

the crowd roars with euphoria as the gates are flung open for the race of the century! every horse and its jockey pounds the dirt track like thunder; treading the grass and soil in a chaos of debris as they race for the flash finish ahead. the galloping stallions strain every muscle vying for pole position, their diminutive but determined drivers howler and whip in rhythm.

meanwhile a late starter, staggers embarrassingly from the starting line... hovering behind the pack and barely able to withhold its last position with the rest of the graceful competitors.

i feel like that last horse at the moment. although i know i'm not in a race or competition with the new chosen path that i've undertaken, it has been a rather uneventful start. i swear i caught some sort of bug after playing indoor soccer on sunday, my throat felt like someone forced me to swallow one of those steel wooly things you wash your wok and pots with. i was so paranoid i even thought i might have caught SARS!!

as much as i hate to have an excuse to take it easy and bludge my first few days of unemployment/freedom, i have officially (who makes it official anyways? do i get a certificate?) got a flu. i haven't been this sick in a while (haha, thank you for the smart comment in the backrow about how i'm always sick. very funny you. we'll discuss my pervertiness another time thankyouverymuch). even went as far as to take chinese medicine! (*yuck* bitter *yuck*)

whoever's got stock in kleenex is going to make a killing in the next couple of days...

i have made an effort to make a start on my art in my quasi-delusional state though (maybe it'll actually make it all look better). i just need to push myself a bit more in starting that HQ competition soon, do a lot more work on knight-edge issue 3 pages and finish that new knight-edge.com website including the most important portfolio page.

meanwhile, i'm also contemplating doing a few kill bill fan-art / pin-ups just because from the previews and ads i've seen have really got me excited and inspired about the visual of the characters. we'll see how i feel when i wake up tomorrow i guess...

000025 - new beginning

today is the beginning of the rest of my life

i wonder why we don't say that when we are first popped into this world? well, ok, obviously we haven't learnt how to exactly comprehend language to form coherent thoughts or sentences but is it all relative to time?? does one have to have some sort of an epiphany in order to say those words? what if you reach another point in your life that you feel like saying it again?

today isn't exactly the beginning of the rest of my life. it is a new beginning of sorts where i'm no longer obligated to go to a 9-5 job, so therefore i'm stress free and free from any responsibilities. however, i don't want to just be a bum at home and do nothing. i have plans and i need to be organised and self-motivated in order to make my dreams become reality.

finishing at work last week wasn't as sad as i thought it might have been. everyone were generally very gracious with the farewells as farewells go. i think i got most of the loose ends tied up and handed over my projects without too much burden for my former colleagues. i know i'm not really obligated to care but morally, i did what i could i think. went out with abby, james and tom on my last day to have a few drinks at the greville hotel and watched the opening world cup rugby match between australia and argentina.

bbq at Prasanna yesterday was good as i got to catch up with friends over some quality time. and today went to an indoor soccer match. haven't played soccer since high school and haven't played indoor since about 5 years ago. good to have that feeling of playing on a team with my old friends but my body is paying for it. all of us weren't as fit as we'd like.

got to jet. more next time.
