000117 - Job gets!

This year's Comikaze 24 hour Challenge came and went already. I gave it a go once again and here's my entry. I finally got to 24 pages but the result definitely wasn't at the top of my game in terms of art or story-telling. Great stuff to the organisers, sponsors, supporters, all those that participated and all those that read and made comments! Thanks, see you all next year!!

Been really quiet on the work front though. Almost nothing coming in freelance dept. but the good news is that I finally found a permanent full-time job as a Graphic Designer at an IT company. Yay! I start next Wednesday, so I've got my fingers crossed that it'll be a good role and I'll be working with nice people.

Haven't found the inspiration to draw much lately as well. So no progress to report on Knight-Edge #4 I'm afraid. Still working very slowly on those storyboards for that Aussie biker movie that I can't talk about but otherwise, nothing in terms of personal creative projects which I hope to rectify soon.

Manga:
I would like to make some recommendations for MPD Psycho vol. 1 and also XS Hybrid vol. 1 both published by Dark Horse. I've been a fan of Mulitple Personality Detective Psycho for a while now, it's a psychological thriller written by Eiji Otsuka and beautifully drawn by Sho-u Tajima. It's probably not everyone's cup of tea, due to it's very graphic nature with showing corpses and dead body parts but if you're a fan of a good murder myster thriller with some really mind blowing twist, I highly recommend it. XS on the other hand is a pure adrenaline action packed ride written and drawn by Korean sensation, Ji-Hyung Song. The first book is mostly setup and character introductions mainly but there's heaps of action in there, so it'll definitely keep you wanting more.

Anime:
Devil May Cry - Animation is very stylish and cool. Alot of unseen violent action sequences, could probably bump up the cheese factor like they had in DMC3. Maybe.
Bokurano - The anime director has already come out and said if you like the manga stop watching the anime because he hated the manga. Strange comment but the changes to the anime are kinda endorsed by the mangaka, so what can you do. I quite like the changes they've made so far, more logical and realistic as you can get if you compare it with the manga. Don't know about the director's intension of bringing the children back to life though...
Death Note - One last episode to go. Haven't been watching since ep29. Saving up the last 8 to watch it all in one go or when we find the time. There's meant to be a special to come during Japan's Golden Week, too.

Movies:
The Rage in Placid Lake - Been kind of avoiding this Aussie movie because well, it's an Aussie movie and it's got Ben Lee in it. But it was surprisingly very enjoyable. Sarcastic and very smart and often times hilarious dialogue. Rose Byrne.
Deja Vu - Great action pop corn sci-fi movie. Gotta love those time travel movies even though there were no flux capacitor in sight.
Apocalypto - Been looking forward to this one for ages since we missed it at the cinemas. Really interested in the whole Mayan mythology and culture. The plot is actually more simple and basic than I had anticipated but still very edge of the seat action movie and enjoyable. Can get quite bloody and gruesome at times.
Stranger Than Fiction - Very controlled and well acted tragic comedy starring a very reserved Will Ferrel. Very nicely written and paced. I loved all the sfx that MK12 did in this movie. I also wish I have that watch.
Amores Perros - Not as good as it's hyped up to be in my opinion. I get all the links and thematics (love, brothers, betrayal and dogs) in the 3 different stories in the movie but meh. The first story is obviously the strongest and I kinda lost interested as the movie dragged on.
The Machinist - The blurb on the DVD cover gave too much away, but quite a nice thriller. I think the ending or the twist isn't all that surprising (especially if you've seen those movies that the DVD cover blurb mentioned) but I guess it does makes sense.
Cry Wolf - Thought we had seen this teen murder thriller before but it turned out we hadn't. I think it did tried too hard to be smart and with twists upon twists for its own good. For most of the movie, we just see it from the protagonist point of view, which he should have remembered that unless you see and touch the corpse yourself, don't assume they're already dead.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer - saw this one with Darren and Kevin. I thought it wasn't too bad. I liked the first movie as a pure pop-corn no-brainer when we watched it on DVD and I reckon the sequel was an improvement. Silver Surfer character was a great inclusion. Terribly disappointed with how Galactus was represented though and the ending was kinda meh.

Going to see Transformers tomorrow night! Wahoo! Will be leaving most of my treasured childhood memories of the toys and cartoons at the door though.

Games:
Shin Megami Tensei: Lucifer's Call - I keep coming back to this game because I love the character designs and style by Kazuma Kaneko and it's one of few RPGs where leveling (or grinding) is actually fun in my opinion. Also love leveling the demons in my party and fusing them to see weird and strange combinations. Got a party member that has both Brainwash and Seduce skills which makes getting new demons to join my gang that much easier.
Planet Puzzle League - Awesome game! Was never into puzzle games except maybe original classic Tetris. Then after I played my gf's copy of Zoo Keeper I was totally addicted to that style of puzzle game. PPL is like a techno dance version of Zoo Keeper and Tetris mixed together with really great single and multi-player options.
Puzzle Quest - Yet another cool puzzle game. This one is like an D&D RPG mixed with a puzzle game. I haven't play this one as much though and will see if playing 2 puzzle games are too much for my head.
